It was emphasised that there is a new header for self-managed machines which do not have ip addresses. selfmanaged.h should now only be used for machines with fixed ip addresses.
Tim asked whether remote wake up is available. This has not been set up as yet.
It was clarified that this works in a similar'ish manner to 'nice'. It was agreed that anyone thinking about using this should check with the component author first. It would clearly be unadvisable for this to be used for every component but for some (e.g. slapd), it will be very helpful to avoid the process being killed.
Could people please check through and tidy the list of LCFG reminders. It's getting rather large!
It was confirmed that the only data held on ataboy1 is /tibscache1 which can be retrieved from tape.

In summary, it was agreed that 64bit should be the default. It's faster, 32bit is likely to be dropped at some point in the future and if we want students to use KVM, it requires 64bit.
RAT were tasked with checking for any 64bit package issues and to confirm that flashplayer worked correctly. It was noted that there would be effort required helping people through what might be missing (i.e. code developed on 32bit) and that it should also be the default for servers.
Stephen gave a brief talk on the changes to package lists. Briefly, there will be 2 install types - base and desktop, neither of which include all packages. In addition, optional package lists will be used. This will simplify things greatly and allow for automatic updates. For further information, Stephen has created useful notes - in particular see section "manage optional package lists".
Alastair asked each Unit for an update on their sl6 progress. To allow for us to have some test machines available for staff and to start upgrading the labs, it is expected that this work will be completed by the end of the month.
