Report from Computing Executive Group
Reports from units.
It was agreed that it would be useful to have the subnet definitions grouped together as was suggested in the report. The Inf Unit will produce something.
The MPU are in discussion with other LCFG user to sanitise UID and GID usage for local accounts. This will hopefully lead to a LCFG level equivalent to dice/options/localaccounts.h. Stephen will produce a wiki page describing what they are trying to do.

Topics for discussion
It was agreed that though the jabber logs were a useful source of information, they should be somewhat ephemeral in nature. Retaining logs for a month seems like a reasonable compromise. The question of whether anyone other than computing staff actually uses this facility was raised. It was agreed that the Inf unit would investigate current and future interest in this service. Regardless of the outcome of this investigation, it was felt that this service was too useful to give up using and that the central service was not a suitable substitute. The Inf unit will produce a project proposal covering the upgrade of the service for the next project priority period.
Neil asked about error messages he had been getting from Subversion since the introduction of the new certificates. Stephen replied that there was a problem and that it was being investigated.
In response to another question from Neil, Stephen noted that the lcfg-xfree component is still available under SL6 but that it is not installed by default.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 12th October in room 4.33.
