Report from Computing Executive Group
Although attendance at UKUUG should be booked via Alastair, if you wish to attend the conference dinner, that should be booked through the conference web site.
Reports from units.
Mousa is now running a new version of the LCFG compiler. One change in behaviour is that the compiler will now report any warnings which occur whereas the old version would only do this if errors also occurred. Work is continuing on comparing profiles produced by the old and new compilers.
Alastair reported that the KVM documentation has been updated to emphasis that the standard guest creation tools (virt-manager, virt-install, virt-clone and virsh) should not be used to create guests on MPU managed KVM servers. Instead, the local kvmtool should be used. Iain will shortly be producing a bash script to simplify this process.
Topics for discussion
Alison's document about updating users in the event of an service disruption (https://wiki.inf.ed.ac.uk/DICE/NotifyUserDisruption) was discussed. Some minor changes and additions were suggested and it was agreed that the information contained in the document would be more useful in the form of a checklist. Alison will handle this conversion.
Neil pointed out that the DICE non-authenticated support form has a field to allow users to enter a DICE UUN. The ticket generated by the form doesn't indicate that this UUN is unauthenticated. The User Support Unit will investigate.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 22nd February 2012 in room 4.31
