  5. Topics for discussion

    1. DICE Desktop disk usage

Stephen gave an interesting presentation on the results of his survey of root disk usage on DICE clients. Based on this, he will now produce concrete proposals for the layout on SL7.

    2. Discuss individual points raised by Computing structure discussions

Alastair will arrange a separate meeting.

    3. Password Portal

Alison reported that many more new users are forgetting the password they have set using the password portal than has been the case in previous years. Before agreeing to Alison's proposal that users should be able to reset their password using the password portal, it was felt that more effort should be made to find out why users are finding it so hard to remember their password. One theory is that they don't really understand what their DICE password is for, combined with a suspicion that IS may be telling new users that their EASE password is the only password they will need. It was agreed that the User Support unit will investigate what information the new user is given about passwords and what our own documentation has to say on the subject before any further action is taken.

    4. Using twitter to plug a new blog article

It was agree that this was in theory a good idea though care should be taken not to swamp our numerous followers with too many tweets. The meeting was reminded that during normal working hours, the User Support Unit should send out all tweets about service status (see here for details).
