Report from Computing Executive Group
The next documentation week, focusing on our internal documentation, will be in November.
Alison re-iterated some provisional decant dates. The first weekend move (22nd - 24th May) will involve the Graduate School plus level 5 (North, South and West labs). The second weekend move (29th - 31st May) will involve levels 6, 7 and 8 moving to Wilkie building. The third move (9th - 19th Jun) will be the remainder of level 5, the Teaching Office and the flip-desks. Alison to confirm the arrangements for moving machines from 6,7 and 8.
Reports from units
Subsequent to the meeting, Ian posted a workaround.
(14:19:55) idurkacz: Re the 'power failure' latching by IPMI I mentioned at the Ops Meeting: Neil's been looking at it (and also looking at the Dell 'dset' utility) and has found that resetting the BMC ('ipmitool mc reset cold') clears the incorrectly-latched fault in this case. Thanks for finding that out. So, that's a (manual) workaround we have if/when we need it; we'll also pursue other leads. (14:22:41) neilb: I also discovered that to run the current Dell dset tool, I needed to do: export PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:$PATH rpm -e --nodeps Lib_Utils Then run: ./dell-dset-lx64-3.7.0.219.bin --ostype=RHEL6
Although not an item in the report, Neil had noted in the MPU meeting minutes that Chris has 'URL shortener' on his list. Neil mentioned that we had an RT ticket in recently where someone had used bitly and was asking how to subsequently change the link. He suggested that it might be useful for us to provide a similar service but with authenticated access for managing links etc. Needs further discussion - perhaps at Technical Meeting.
