Internal discussion has resulted in some proposals being formulated. Roger will pass these on via email to the LCFG deployers for comment.

Topics for discussion
After some discussion, it was agreed that we lack some essential knowledge about the specifics of how IPMI is implemented on our servers. For example, in the case of Dell servers, what is the difference between DRAC, iDRAC and iDRAC Express? Without this knowledge, it's impossible to give recommendations about what should be specified when ordering up a server and without these recommendations, we will inevitably end up with servers with different capabilities. Craig will take to CEG to determine how to proceed.
There's still confusion about what the background was to the recent issues with the University root certificate. Clarification would be welcome. It's also been implied that IS did not expect these certificates to be used on front line services. We should clarify what IS's expectations are for certificate use and decide on the basis of that whether the University root certificate meets our needs.
It was generally agreed that our response to the issue had been handled well. Although we could have responded more quickly, the approach we took meant that users were always presented with a valid certificate meaning that they were not encouraged to simply click through certificate warnings. This was held to have been more important than simply replacing the certificates ASAP.
On related matters, computing staff were encouraged to start using the new VPN configurations as soon as possible. In view of the recent widespread phishing attacks within the University, Alison will either write, or provide pointers to, advice on how to avoid being caught out by these attacks
The next meeting will be on 26th August 2015 at 10:00 in WB-G.12 (NOTE UNUSUAL VENUE!)
Alison will convene.
