Report from Computing Executive Group
Groups are to meet to discuss priorities. Should be no more than 1/2 day. If you have any better suggestions, contact Alastair/COs.
Reports from Units
The SL7.2 upgrade is ready to be deployed to all develop machines. Use the DICE_STICK_WITH_SL71 macro if you want to keep a machine on SL7.1.
Please give this a go!
Found to be a size issue. Can be caused by a number of size limits - mysql, RT, apache, mail. Fixed for now until the next large attachment appears ..
Alastair asked for confirmation that there is currently only 1 LDAP server for autofs on sl7. (autofs on sl7 requires special treatment). Craig confirmed this is correct but there's a 3-machine LDAP round-robin set up for autofs, but it's not being used yet. This will be rectified in the stable release w/c 29th Feb. (The LDAP server which SL7 hosts use currently resolves to a bank of 7 servers).
There seems to be an issue with printer lists on sl7 machines being empty despite cups-browsd still running. A systemctl restart appears to fix it. Still to establish why this is happening.
We are making better progress.
We had a few students at the FH session. Hopefully more staff/PhDs will turn up next Wed (MF2 @ 3pm).
Topics for discussion
We had some discussion about the pros and cons. Gavin's vision is that this should happen but still at an early stage. Alastair to speak to Johanna about this specific case.
Comments by first thing Friday.
The next meeting will be on 9th March 2016 at 10:00 in IF-4.31.
