We need to decide if we prefer the shut down of the main Forum server room on the 20th of July to happen in the morning or afternoon.
It was agreed by the meeting that the deadline for upgrading multi-user servers to SL7.6 would be the end of August with all other servers being updated by the end of September.
Alastair emphasised that the arrival of this new kit should result in the removal of the old arrays and SAN infrastructure from the server rooms. It was suggested thet the 20th July powerdown might be a good time to haul out all the old fibre cables from the racks.
Topics for discussion
Although discussion of this had been delayed until a document detailing the CEG proposals for how this might be implemented was produced, there was still a little coverage of this subject. It was clarified that the proposal to have COs do a 1/2 day on the support desk every two months was unrelated to the ad-hoc cover required to keep the support desk open for the entire working day. Neil asked if the latter requirement was already in place, the answer being in the affirmative. More when the document is produced.
This issue having been taken back to CEG for discussion, the following clarifications were made:
Unit managers, by contrast, will have a rota for initially responding to server room issues.
Alex asked how preparations were coming along to allow two students located in China to take a resit exam in August. It was agreed that this was mainly a RAT issue. Craig will check with Tim that preparations are well in hand.
