DICE is the project to develop a new computing infrastructure to support the research, teaching and administrative requirements of the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh

Started in February 2000, it builds on work already done in relation to large-scale automatic machine configuration and management for the former Department of Computer Science, now part of the School. See also the LCFG site.
